My name is Ryan Adams. I graduated from Portland State University in the Fall of 2007. In Oct 09 I left for Niger as a Peace Corps Volunteer with the Community Health Education Program. Because of growing security concerns, after only 6 weeks in Niger my training class is relocating to Madagascar in Dec 09. My journey continues. Still no word from Ryan. However, many of the other families have heard from their Peace Corps Volunteers (PCV. Many have received letters, and some have had phone calls. Two girls have already returned home. One due to a family emergency, and another resigned after 4 days.
ReplyDeleteMost news I've heard from other families is very positive and upbeat - the PCVs are loving Niger. They are living with their host families, two PCVs to a family. They are learning the tribal language, eating lots of rice and sand, and it is very hot. The people of Niger and very friendly and welcome the PCVs.

I heard from Ryan! Got an email this morning. He is learning the tribal language of Hausa and he spent the past 5 days in the Tillaberry region of Kollo with a "seasoned" peace corps volunteer. He hopes to get a phone on the 21st! Sounded very positive - but was bummed that the Yankees won the World Series!
